After-School Tutoring for Immigrant Teens
Starting school in St. Louis is daunting for immigrant and refugee teens. Some youth, including Somalis, Afghans, Liberians, and Burundians, have spent extended periods in refugee camps waiting for resettlement. Others, especially young women from Africa, have been denied access to education due to gender discrimination. Volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring support to help newcomers catch up.

Micro-Loans for Immigrant Entrepreneurs
The II Community Development Corporation (IICDC) facilitates start up and expansion loans to immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs. Historically, immigrants have been the backbone of small business development in America. Immigrant businesses provide employment and economic stability for immigrant families. Of equal importance, immigrant businesses also create jobs, pay taxes and overall contribute to strengthening St. Louis’ economy.
